T.Bird on a Wire

2004 Flooding

Flooding in 2004 ripped the culvert pipe right out of the road. I was just about to leave for work when it happened. We stood there and watched the pipe come up out of the ground (sort of like the titanic) and then wash down the creek and get stuck.

Naturally, I emailed this picture to my boss to explain why I wouldn’t be in that day. 🙂 The roads all around us were washed out.

I don’t mean this in a bad way, but that’s a cool picture. We had a similar washout locally a year ago and then someone clear cut the hillside above the slide. Then a few months back, we lost our highway to town–meaning a 2-3 hour detour through another state to get to the town 40 miles away. Ain’t country living grand?

It was something to watch as it was happening. I know it’s nothing like what people have been experiencing in the NE this week, but man, to us it was like something out of a movie.

I can’t imagine having a 2-3 hour detour! Ouch!
