Moving stuff

I’m working on getting this blog imported into the new site. I think I should have checked my bookmarks for this stuff because comments didn’t import and category counts didn’t update. No biggie, though. I’m good with SQL and can pretty much fix most of it myself.

I also need to settle on a theme or make my own. I’d really like to make my own but am nervous about starting. I have a lot of documentation, but the design for me is the hard part. I’m not creative at all. I can do stuff from patterns, but to start something from scratch, design-wise, is scary.

I’d really like to expand now that I have a host and my own domain name. So those decisions about keeping stuff in blog format or making additional web pages will keep my mind busy too. I have been bored at my job and have started dabbling in different things outside of work (some related to what I do now, some totally off the beaten path for me) so I’ll eventually incorporate that stuff in as well.

The new site is http://www.tbirdonawire.net/tbirdwp

I’m still playing with the blog and the main site http://www.tbirdonawire.net. They may not work sometimes while I’m playing. Or, they may look one way one minute and then next something totally different.

I’ve really needed something lately to spark my interest again, and this just might be it. Comments, suggestions, tips, encouragement are all welcome!

I’ve recently set up my own domain and have been playing around.  I’m excited about putting a whole new site together.  I’ll put a link up when I’m happy with what I have started.  It will constantly be a work in progress.

In the meantime, here’s another view from my back porch.

I used to make the time to crochet and cross stitch.  Here is something I made for my little sister’s bridal shower 14 years ago.

I’m sure there are going to be many posts about the 5th anniversary of 9/11 today. I’d like to take some time to write about the human aspect of it and leave all the political stuff aside.

I remember when the news came in. I was at work and started hearing people buzzing about something that sounded pretty important. At f irst people were in disbelief of what they were hearing. Then they started checking out the news sites and found that this was real. It was hard for us to wrap our heads around it. I, too, logged in to the news sites and sat there with my mouth gaping at the images that were being sent across the internet. How could this be?

I remember thinking about all the people that were inside the towers and how horrible the scene inside must be. The fear and pain that those people felt was more than I could comprehend. There have been shows on TV with stories from the survivors and what they were going through while this was happening. I know it sounds terrible, but for those that did not survive I would count the ones that died instantly very lucky.

I thought of the people who were seeing this on TV knowing that their loved ones were in or near the towers and they were helpless to do anything about it. I prayed for them as well.

News of the crash in Shanksville hit closer to home. We live about 2 hours from Shanksville. Here at work we all wondered if we should leave and go get our kids from school so we would know that they were safe with us.

My emotions were in a tailspin. Was there more to come? Were we in danger too? Why were we spared and why did the others have suffer and perish?

This article in The Sun was so cute I had to share.  It’s about a labrador named Sam adopting an orphaned fawn.

Noladawn’s Book Meme

# Grab the nearest book.
# Open the book to page 123.
# Find the fifth sentence.
# Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
# Don’t you dare dig for that “cool” or “intellectual” book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.
# Tag whomever you want, or not.

So my book doesn’t have 123 pages so I just let it fall open to any page and here is what it says:

“So what is your life’s passion? What were you put on this earth to do? The answer to these questions will unlock the great mystery of life; it’s as big as they come.”

This comes from The Meaning of Life by Bradley Trevor Greive.

I thought this was pretty cool since I’m at work and all I really have are technical books until I came across this one. I needed to read more and this is what else it has to say:

“Here are a few hints that may help you get on the right track: First, no one is going to tell you about it. It’s like walking around all day with a sign on your back that says “Kick me.” You must discover it for yourself. It’s also highly unlikely that one day you’ll suddenly be bathed in bright light and your life’s purpose will be laid out in a divine vision, and it’s guaranteed that you won’t find it on television.”

“For some people this will simply be a case of seeking out the moments in their life that are beautiful and true and then building a plan around them. For others it may feel as if they are staring into an abyss In extreme cases, such intense introspection may cause the brain to swell to dangerous dimensions. Trust me, it’s worth the risk. If you ask the big questions and listen carefully to your heart, you will eventually hear destiny call you.”

WOW! I have been soul searching recently because I have been unhappy at my job. I have been here 21 years and do not feel fulfilled. I tell myself I stay here for my family since I am the breadwinner and I still have teenagers at home. Thanks Noladawn for this meme. If you hadn’t tagged me, I wouldn’t have reopened this book and read this. I need to start asking the big questions and listening more carefully.
